Board-Certified Specialists Equipped to Handle Even The Most Complex Cases

Our surgeons are certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), which means they have completed an additional 4-5 years of specialized training, rigorous board exams, and must have published research in peer reviewed journals. Collectively, our surgeons have over 35 years of board-certified experience.

Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital was designed and built to handle even the most complex traumas and surgical emergencies. This includes:

  • In-house imaging like ultrasound, CT scans, MRI scans, and fluoroscopy allows us to quickly and accurately diagnose, plan and perform surgical treatments under one roof.
  • Minimally invasive surgery options like laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, arthroscopy, and fluoroscopic-guided interventional procedures reduce discomfort and recovery time for your pet.
  • Dedicated surgery suites for soft tissue, neurology, orthopedic, dental, and interventional surgeries.
  • In-house laboratory and comprehensive anesthetic equipment.

Comprehensive Aftercare

As pet owners themselves, our staff understand that surgery is a stressful time for both you and your furry family member.

That’s why we provide:

  • 24-hour post-surgery care supported by our experienced, on-site VECCS level 1 emergency and critical care team who can identify and immediately respond to any potential life-threatening complications. This means you don’t have to worry about managing your pet’s post-surgical recovery at home. We provide complete post-operative care including anesthetic recovery, postoperative pain management, fluid and mobility support, and postoperative wound care.
  • Collaborative patient care with input from other specialty services including critical care, cardiology, neurology, oncology, internal medicine, and dentistry.
  • Tailored pain management plans ensure your pet’s specific anesthesia needs are met so they remain comfortable through the procedure and recovery. This includes nerve-blocks, epidurals, multimodal analgesia, and 24-hour narcotic support for the most painful procedures.
  • Comprehensive follow up appointments and radiographs (as needed) are included so that you can work with your pet’s surgeon to monitor progress, fine-tune the recovery plan, and assure that the outcome meets expectations. By including the cost of these visits and radiographs, there is less stress about incurring ongoing costs if your pet’s recovery takes more time than average.
  • In-house rehabilitation services including hydrotherapy, cold-laser and personalized therapeutic exercises help promote healing, improve mobility, and restore strength. The rehabilitation department works directly with your pet’s surgeon to fine-tune treatments to achieve a fast and full recovery.

How to Get a Referral to Our Surgical Services

There are two ways to get an appointment for specialty care at our hospital:

  1. From your primary veterinarian
A referral ensures the proper transfer of medical information. It is beneficial to your pet and the specialty veterinarian to have all relevant medical information and will help your pet receive appropriate care.
  2. Contact us directly
You are welcome to contact us directly without a referral if you believe your pet would benefit from specialty or behaviour care. However, we believe strongly in working hand-in-hand with your family veterinarian to provide comprehensive care, and if it is possible to provide records or a referral from your family vet, it is helpful. Please contact us at 604-514-8383 or at info@bbvsh.com.

Our Code of Conduct

we love animals

Respect

We are here to take good care of your pet and we’re committed to establishing trust and mutual respect with our clients, however, please know that abusive language, aggressive behaviour, and lack of respect toward any of our staff members will not be tolerated.

Most Critical First

We prioritize care based on severity, ensuring that the most critically ill patients receive attention first. Upon arrival, your pet will undergo a thorough triage assessment to determine the level of urgency. This process allows us to quickly identify and treat potentially life-threatening conditions.

Pay For Service

Emergency Services aim to diagnose and support your pet during their illness or crisis; however, please recognize that you are paying for the services rendered, not the results achieved. The fees cover time, expertise, and resources dedicated to your pet’s care, regardless of outcome.

If your pet is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, come directly to our hospital.

Walk-ins are welcome; no appointment is required.

If you are able, call ahead and let us know you are coming.
