CT Scans and MRIs

At BBVSH, our ER doctors and board-certified specialists use in-house CT scans and MRI imaging to quickly diagnose and treat a wide range of health conditions in our patients.

About CT Scans at Boundary Bay

What is a CT Scan?

Computed Tomography (CT) is an advanced imaging technique that uses X-rays and computer processing to produce detailed cross-sectional images of your pet’s body. Unlike standard X-rays, CT scans can reveal fine anatomical details by capturing multiple angles and assembling them into highly detailed, 3D-like views—allowing veterinarians to “see inside” areas that would otherwise be difficult to evaluate.

Benefits of CT Scans

A CT scan delivers rapid, non‑invasive, and highly detailed cross‑sectional images—typically in just 5 to 30 minutes—making it ideal for assessing bones, soft tissues, lungs, and abdominal organs. It’s especially effective for detecting fractures, bone tumours, internal bleeding, respiratory issues, and for staging cancer. The speed and precision of CT also make it invaluable in emergency situations, surgical planning, and treatment evaluation.

About MRIs at Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital

What is an MRI?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that uses powerful magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of your pet’s internal structures—including bones, organs, and especially soft tissues like the brain and spinal cord.

MRI Benefits

MRI provides high-resolution, detailed images of the brain, spinal cord, and other soft tissue structures that are difficult to visualize with other imaging tools. At Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital, MRI plays a critical role in diagnosing conditions such as intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), brain and spinal tumors, inflammatory or infectious conditions of the central nervous system, and certain types of cancer.
